2009-2010 ASSMU Senate

President - Ahmadou Seck

Hello, my name is Ahmadou Seck and I am a junior majoring in business. I was born and raised in Seattle Washington and I am the current student body president. During my time at SMU I have been active and involved on campus. I was vice president and co founder for the Black Student Union my freshman year. Sophomore year I became involved with student government as the Senator of Cultural Diversity. During that year we had the most cultural clubs come into existence than any other year in the university history. I was honored enough to receive the Senator of the year award. The students are always my top priority and if you would like to offer your ideas of what you would like to see here at Saint Martin’s feel free to let me know.

Vice President - Sarah Crawford

I am really excited to be on ASSMU this year. I am a senior U.S. History major and an English minor, hoping to one day go into the political field.  I have been involved on campus since my very first year here. I have worked at the Information Center since I was a freshman; I am frequently up in Campus Ministry and have been on a few trips with them. I try to be at every sporting event cheering on our Saints. I look forward to working with all of you, as well. Please if you have any questions, comments, or concerns at all, do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to a great year!

Treasurer - Sancha Elevado

One of my goals during my collegiate years is to be involved with activities as much as I can. My freshman year, I was part of the ASSMU's Finance Committee as well as Elections Committee and from there everything just took off. I was appointed ASSMU Treasurer last November for the 2008-2009 school year and the Senate re-appointed me for the 2009-2010 school year.  I am a junior accounting major and a religious studies minor. I work at O'Grady Library, a member of Campus Life-PROS and am part of Saint Martin's University's Board of Trustees University Council, Student Conduct Committee and Finance Committee. Least to say, I am definitely fulfilling that goal.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask!

Senator of Clubs - Angela Shirley

I am excited to be serving on ASSMU for a second year. I think that last year was a great year and I know that we can make it even better this year. I look forward to the new clubs being formed and more student involvement. For those of you who don't know me, I am a junior studying business with an emphasis in marketing. I’ve been a vegetarian for over a year now and love sharing my knowledge of animal rights, and making our environment greener. I work in Campus Ministry, as well, as a resident assistant for Burton.  If you ever need help in any of those areas feel free to ask me!

Senator of Resident Students - Jonathon Hew Len

I'm Jonathon Hew Len, a sophomore here at Saint Martin’s University.  It is a great pleasure to be serving as the Senator of Residents on the Associated Students of Saint Martin’s University.  For short most of you know it as ASSMU.  I'm from Hawaii were it is all about relaxing and that is pretty much how I am, laid back kind of guy.  So feel free to come up to me and say hello.  I just want to say thank you to all of your support and hopefully I can be of great service here at Saint Martin’s.

Senator of Cultural Diversity - Katherine Rice

I am a senior and will be very sad to be leaving the SMU Community. Before leaving, however, I wanted to do all I could to help make progress in a time of change for our school. I am your ASSMU Senator of Cultural Diversity for the 2009-2010 school year and I am here to make changes for You! I grew up in Tacoma attending public school up through middle school when I was transferred into a private high school. Coming from a high school with little extracurricular activities outside of sports, I was amazed and excited by all the clubs and opportunities here at Saint Martin's. Since coming to Saint Martin's, I have gone from a quiet girl who stayed in the background, to someone who's not afraid to speak up when I really care about something. So Thank You for giving me this opportunity to advocate for our student body and Please help me by letting me know what you want to see accomplished!

Senator of International Student - Daniel Wallin

Hey! My name is Daniel (Danny) Wallin and I’m the Senator of International Students. I was born in Portland, Oregon but soon thereafter moved up to Kirkland, Washington where I went to school K-12, graduating from Juanita High School and ultimately coming here to Saint Martin’s University. During my sophomore year at Saint Martin’s, I studied abroad at Kobe International University in Kobe, Japan. The experience I had in Japan allowed me to understand the perspective of International students, being one myself. I fully intend to use my experience to improve the relationship and communication between administration and International students while also improving overall experience of all International students studying at Saint Martin’s. If you see me around campus, say hi!
